Why is rapeseed oil a healthier choice for cooking?
Rapeseed oil is a good choice cooking oil as it has less saturated fat than other commonly used cooking oils and fats (e.g. approx. 50% less than olive oil). It is high in unsaturated fats, particularly mono-unsaturated. Current UK dietary advice is to replace saturated fats with unsaturated fats to lower blood cholesterol. High cholesterol is a risk factor in the development of coronary heart disease. Rapeseed oil is also a rich source of vitamin E. But remember all types of fat are high in energy (calories) and should be eaten sparingly.
